Rolling Procedure

Ring cold rolling is a specific kind of cold forming which is high efficient. The principle is characterized by two tools, a driven roll which contributes the outer profile and a free rotating mandrel for the inner profile. Both tools are rotating whereby the workpiece is moved as well. While gap between roll and mandrel gets reduced, tool’s profiles are pressed into the workpiece. The diameter of workpiece increases and the wall thickness decreases. Additionally cold forming hardens the material. The finished workpiece has got an inner and/or outer profile and is ready for grinding.

Roll Phases

  1. Centring in between tools
  2. Stabilization
  3. Profiling and growth
  4. Complete profil

Benefits of cold compared to conventional machining:

  • Saving of raw material
  • chipless
  • Lower handling costs
  • No variation of wall thickness
  • Better performance characteristics because fibre flow is adapted to geometry of workpiece
